The present status of an alian raccoon,Procyon lotor on Shikoku Island,southen Japan was investigated by means of questionnaire suvey,auto-photography and examination of carcasses obtained during the survey. The result showed that P.lotor already settled in Shikoku.This species seemed abundant on eastern district of Kagawa Prefecture,and ranged southerly tothe Yoshino River in northern Tokushima Prefecture,adjacent to Kagawa Prefecture.No reliable information on the occurrence of P.lotor in the wild was obtained from Ehime(western Shikoku )and Kochi(southern Shikoku)Prefectures.

Bat fauna of Kochi Prefecture was studied at ten localities by using mist nets from June to November in 2004.Twelve individuals of the following five species in the two families,Rhinolophidae and Vespertilionidae were captured:Rhinolophus ferrumequinum,Barbastella leucomelas,Miniopterus fuliginosus,Murina hilgendorfi,and Muria ussuriensis.New localities for each species were as follows:Susaki and Shimanto Cities for R.ferrumequinum,Kami City for B.leucomelas,Susaki City for M.fuliginosus,Tsuno Town for M.hilgendorfi,and Kami City and Tsuno Town for M.ussuriensis,respectively.
The distribution of two varunid crabs of the genus Ptychognathus,P.ishii and P.capillidigitatus,was studied based on specimens collected from tidal zones on southern coast of Ehime Prefecture,southern Japan.Specimens of P.ishii collected were 83 from nine localities.These were 24 and two for P.capillidigitatus,respectivery.Apparentiy P.ishii had a wider range than that of P.capillidigitatus,though the sympatric occurrence was rarely found.This tendency was similar to other areas on southern Shikoku Island.
The distribution of a graspsid crab Ilyograpsus nodulosus in Kochi Prefecture,southern Japan is reported on the basis of 239 specimens collected from March 2004 through Jury 2006.Prior to this study two females from brackish waters of the Kagami River flowing into Urado Estuary represented the occurrence of this species in Kochi Prefecture.The specimens in this study were collected from 14 localities on estertidal mudflats from middle to western coast of Tosa Bay.

Two specimens of the Tube-nosed bat Murina hilgendorfi,which was a vulnerable species on Red Data Book of Japan,were collected
from Ino Town,Kochi Prefecture on September 2006.Those bats were trapped
on adhesive sheets which were set for collecting insects.The environment
where the bats were collected was a mature plantation of Hinoki cypress
Chamaecyparis obtusa with poor understory vegetation.
We report a record of a juvenile Sibetian Blue Robin Luscinia cyane observed at Mt.Sasa,Ehime Prefecture,Japan,on 14 August 2005.This may represent an evidence of L.cyane breeding from Shikoku Island.
Two juveniles,101mm and 107mm in total length,of snake eel Pisodonophis cancrivorus were collected from intertidal sandy-mud flat at depths about 15 to 20cm in Uranouchi Inlet,central Kochi Prefecture,southern Japan.A brief description and photographs of these specimens are given.
Two moray eels,Gymnothorax isingteena (Richardson,1845) and Gymnothorax pseudothyrsoideus (Bleeker,1852) are reported for the first time from Urado Estuary in Kochi City on middle coast of Tosa Bay,southern Japan.In Kochi Prefecture these two species have been known only from western district.
A diodontid fish Cyclichys spilostylus (Leis and Randall,1982) is reported for the first time from Kochi Prefecture on the basis of a specimen(245.3mm in standard length) obtained at Mimase fish market in Kochi City.This specimen also represents the northernmost record of this species on the Pacific coast of Japan.A brief description including coloration and photograph is given.
A puffer Arothron immaculatus(Schneider,1801) is recorded for the first time from Kochi Prefecture,southern Japan on the basis of a 24.5mm standard length specimen. This specimen was collected from a seagrass bed of Zostera japonica on depths shallower than 1m in the Kakise River (33°00′34″N,133°00′25″E)in Kuroshio Town.In the waters around Japan this species has been Known only from the Ryukyu Islands,the southernmost district of Japan.This specimen representing the northernmost record of A.immaculatus is described and figured.
Three specimens of a scatophagid fish Scatophagus argus were collected at the mouth of the Sakura River(33°24′18″N,133°17′51″E) flowing into Susaki Bay in Kochi Prefecture,southern Japan.The specimens ranged from 13.2mm to 144.4mm in standard length.Susaki Bay represents a new locality for this species in Kochi Prefecture,and a 144.4mm standard length fish is the largest one among the known S.argus specimens from middle coast on Tosa Bay.
四国初記録のキマダラハゼ Astrabe flavimaculata とシロクラハゼ属（Astrabe）の分布（スズキ目ハゼ科）
The occurrence of a shallow water marine goby,Astrabe flavimaculata Akihito and Meguro,1988,is first reported from Shikoku Island,on the basis of a single 32.1mm SL specimen from the Yokonami Peninsula,Kochi Prefecture.The present new locality fills the known geographic gap for this species between the Paciffic coast of central Honshu and southern Kyushu.The distribution of the genus Astrabe considered to be endemic to Japanese water is also discussed.
Two specimens of semi-terrestrial sesarmid crab Parasesarma plicatum were collected from Katana-hama mud-flat in Ainan Town,Ehime Prefecture,southern Japan.This represents the first record of this species from Ehime Prefecture,and Katano-hama mud-flat is the fifth locality for this species on Shikoku Island,southern Japan.
The occurrence of a brackish water crab Ptychognathus barbatus from Kochi and Ehime Prefectures,southern Japan,are reported.A 8.8mm carapace width male from the Mashino River(32°47′19″N,132°53′31″E) in Tosashimizu City represents the second record of this species from Kochi Prefecture.This species is recorded for the First time from Ehime Prefecture on the basis of a 10.1mm carapace width female from the Kunomura River (33°12′35″N,132°33′24″E)in Uwajima City.
