The distribution of a fiddler crab Ura arcuata in Kochi Prefecture, southern Japan was studied from September 2008 to November 2009. Three tidal flats in the rivers, Shimonokae(Tosashimizu City), Kakise(Kuroshio Town), and Kohsou(Kohnan City) are reported as new localities fo this species. At the present time, the occurrence of U. arcuata designated as one of the critically endangered species of Kochi Prefecture seems to be restricted to ten localities in this area.

The Great Cormorant Phalacrocorax carbo is in the increasing tendency in Japan recently. Many new breeding colonies of the Great Cormorant were discovered in last ten years though it had been considered to be a winter migrant on Shikoku District. According to the colony size confirmed within last five years, we estimated that over 1,750 pairs of the Great Cormorant are breeding in Shikoku District. The average colony size(number of breeding pairs) of the Great Cormorant in Shikoku District was 92 pairs, though it varied widly among colonies. Most of the breeding colonies of the Great Cormorant were located on small islands.
